Joseph Nechvatal: From Photography to Post-Photography

Opening April 3rd to April 30th, 2014 Galerie Omnius is pleased to present American artist Joseph Nechvatal’s exhibition From Photography to Post-Photography.

Joseph Nechvatal: From Photography to Post-Photography is a photo-based survey that elucidates, through selected pieces that stretch from 1973 to 2010, the arc of transformation regarding the artistic photographic process as it has moved from film into the post-photographic (digital) period of today.

Joseph Nechvatal (born 1951) is a post-conceptual artist that has worked with performance, photography, drawing, sound, sculpture, electronic images and computer technology since the early 1980s. He has published two books; Towards an Immersive Intelligence: Essay on the Work of Art in the Age of Computer Technology and Virtual Reality 1993-2006 (published in 2009 by Edgewise Publication) and Immersion Into Noise (published in 2011 by the University of Michigan in conjunction with Open Humanities Press). He is the composer of the viral symphOny. He recently has exhibited in the exhibition, NOISE, a collaterali exhibition based on Nechvatal’s book: Immersion Into Noise, as part of the Biennale di Venezia. He lives and works in Paris, and is represented there (and in New York) by Galerie Richard.
